When Christian Dior introduced the "New Look" shortly after World War II, leg lovers howled because the skirt hems were much lower - often almost to the ground. Glove lovers, on the other hand, were well-pleased because gloves, particularly long ones, were an integral part of the new styles for both day and evening. In this gallery (for which additions are particularly solicited!) we take a look back at the fashions and styles of the era. (Numerous photos and vidcaps of stars of the 1950's in gloved fashions are available elsewhere on this site!)
Many photos in this gallery excerpted from The Costumer's Companion or The Tight Skirts Page, with others submitted by various individual site visitors. Thanks to Michael Day, webmaster of Vera-Ellen, for contributing art01.jpg, and to Stephen, webmaster of the Tight Skirts Page, for contributing many of the other images in this gallery.
