(a.k.a the legal stuff)
For the Love of Opera Gloves claims copyright only to original material - e.g., the HTML layout, the text commentary, the text arrangement, and other functional layouts and components of this website (including the background image, Webring graphic banner, website link banners and title graphic). We make no copyright or intellectual property claim, or presume any such claim to exist, on any other material on this site, including the various photographs, paintings, drawings, posters, lithographs, digitized scans, video captures, and other images presented here.
All images have been found on other websites, contributed to the webmaster by site visitors, or digitized from pre-existing images. Copyright on all images belongs solely to the original copyright holders, or the persons or entities rightfully assigned said rights under law of the United States or other nations.
As such, no images may be reproduced from this site for use on a for-profit website, or for any profitmaking purposes, without the permission of the appropriate copyright holder. The unauthorized use of copyrighted material for self-profit is a violation of United States law, the laws of many other nations, and various international treaties, and may subject the violator to civil and/or criminal penalties. It is strongly recommended in all cases where the origin of a particular image can be ascertained that you buy the videotape, book, poster or other artwork on which the image originally appears; links have been provided on this website to places where you can do so. The purchase of these artworks provides fair recompense to the creators for their work and encourages them to create more such works.
Visitors to this site may download images from this site for their personal, nonprofit use on their own home computer systems. Any webmaster/webmistress wishing to use a selected image, or images, on his/her own non-profit website ("nonprofit", in this instance, being defined to mean any website to which access is not limited to paid membership) is strongly encouraged to contact the webmaster of this site prior to such use.
All images are used on this site under the "fair use" policy established by the United States Copyright Act of 1976 (as amended) for review, commentary, and criticism. No intent should be assumed on the webmaster's part, or on the part of any other persons or entities connected with this website, to engage in any deliberate violation of copyright or intellectual property laws. Furthermore, given the wide variety of sources from which these images are obtained, a rebuttable presumption of "public domain" origin for these images exists in many cases, particularly in the case of images produced before 1900 CE/A.D. Proof of copyright to any particular image should be submitted to the webmaster in written form.
Wherever possible, the webmaster has endeavored to secure the permission of the webmasters and webmistresses of the various sites on which many of these images appear to use them at For the Love of Opera Gloves, or at the least to determine the origin of these images and assign credit accordingly; recripocal links to these sites have been placed on the links page. However, due to the sheer volume of material coming in, and the breadth of searches conducted daily, it may happen that some websites have been inadvertently overlooked. The webmaster apologizes to any sites thus accidentially omitted, and invites their webmasters/webmistresses to contact him at the email addresses provided below; he will be more than happy to place links to the originating site on the appropriate gallery page and the main links page. Furthermore, wherever copyright information appears on an image, no attempt has been made to obscure or deface that information.
If you are the webmaster/webmistress of a site from which an image has been drawn, or the copyright holder of a particular image, and you believe that said image has been improperly used, please contact me at the email addresses given below and I will do my best to resolve the situation in a mutually satisfactory way. As previously stated, the ideal resolution would be to let the image stand with links back to the appropriate website, or appropriate credit given to the image creator. However, if this solution is not satisfactory to you, the webmaster will remove the image(s).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The webmaster would appreciate that all communications on the issue of copyright and intellectual property be done in a polite, rational, courteous and constructive tone. A threatening, nasty or discourteous demand to have an image removed will result in the removal of the image - BUT with an equally unpleasant message addressed to the sender in response, and possibly a note on the gallery as well. Threats, "nastygrams", and discourtesy in particular only raise bad feelings on both sides of a situation.
