"Emma" is one of two superb film adaptations of Jane Austen's classic comedies of manners in recent years (the other is "Sense and Sensibility", starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, which may sometime soon be the subject of a gallery). Gwyneth Paltrow, in the title role, had deserved praise heaped upon her head for her lively portrayal of a young woman who hilariously tries to play matchmaker while wondering if she's ever going to find real love herself. (As the blurb on the video box notes, the novel also inspired Alicia Silverstone's breakthrough movie "Clueless"). This being the Regency era, Emma wears opera-length gloves (and other long gloves) quite a lot!
