The 1956 movie "War and Peace", starring Audrey Hepburn, Anita Ekberg, Henry Fonda and Mel Ferrer, brought Tolstoy's immortal novel of Napoleon's 1812 invasion of Russia to the screen with style and a powerful eye for historical detail and accuracy. This series of galleries shows Hepburn, Ekberg and other actresses wearing the characteristic long-gloved fashions of the Napoleonic/Regency period. (Look closely, though, at Anita Ekberg's hands in the carriage scene; she's wearing mousquetaires, which your webmaster doesn't think were standard issue in the Regency period.)
